Capabilities of the Nissan Maxima

The Japanese automobile manufacturer wanted to produce a more upscale version of the already famous Nissan Bluebird.  This version became the Nissan Maxima, which has been sold since it first came out as a’four-door sports car.’ This line of middle to full-size automobiles was introduced to the public in 1976, and has proven itself to be one of Nissan’s more sturdy auto lines.  The 1st Maximas were imported from Japan, as they were first manufactured in a plant in Oppama, Japan.  This continued until 2004, when new Maximas for the north american markets have also been assembled in the Nissan’s Tennessee plant in Smyrna.  In other markets outside North America, the Maxima is being referred to as the Nissan Cefiro or Nissan Laurel.  The Maxima, as discussed earlier started as a more upper-end version of the Bluebird in 1976.  It was also then known as the Datsun 810, available in a 2-door coupe and a 4-door sedan and station wagon.

When the first generation of true Maximas was slid off the line, it was for the 1981 model year.  The 2-door coupe style was removed and only the 4-door styles were retained.  Two engines were the options for the first generation Maxima – a 2.4 L L24E I6 and a 2.8 L Diesel LD28 I6 .  Two transmissions were also available – either a 5-speed automatic or a 5 gear manual .  The second generation Maxima was made from 1985 to 1988 with a 3.0 L VG30E V6 engine with 157 hp power.  Transmission was either a 5-speed manual or a 4 gear automated .  The third generation of Maximas, available from 1989 to 1994, featured either a 3.0 L VG30E V6 or a 3.0 L VE30DE V6 engine.

The 4th generation was made of 1995 to 1999, with only a 4-door sedan body style and a 3.0 L VQ30DE V6 engine.  The 5th generation, to herald a new century, introduced lots of changes, from having 3.5 L DE engine to having either 4 speed automated, 5 gear manual, or 6-speed manual transmissions.  The 6th generation of Maximas, available from 2004 to 2008, only introduced aesthetic changes, with the auto being taller, wider and longer.  The prevailing Maximas available are already the seventh generation with a 3.5 L V6 engine.  It was introduced at the New York global auto show in 2008.
